Continuation Work for Xizhi Tongxing Road Highway Crossing Begins, Completion Targeted by March of Year 118

New Taipei City continues to advance transportation infrastructure in Xizhi with the formal commencement of continuation work on the project extending Tongxing Road beneath National Freeway 1. Mayor Hou Yu-ih inspected construction progress on November 2, instructing the team to balance safety and quality toward a completion target of March of year 118. Public Works Department Commissioner Feng Chao-lin explained that the 290-meter project utilizes an underpass configuration beneath National Freeway 1. Since starting in year 109, the project addressed ground improvement, utility relocations, and freeway foundation pile removals. Following the termination and re-tendering prompted by the prior contractor's financial difficulties, the continuation project resumed on October 15 with a re-awarded contract total of 1.239 billion yuan. New Construction Office Director Chien Pi-chi noted that the road extends northward from Fude 2nd Road along Tongxing Road, crossing Fude 3rd Road and National Freeway 1 to link with Kangning Street. To date, 57 pipe roof supports have been installed under the highway; continuation works will complete the remaining 11 supports, an underground vehicular box culvert, access ramps, and advance foundation piers for the planned Xidong MRT Line.
